The upbringing of a child makes all the difference in the life of that child and the society in which they live. There are children who, according to society norms are condemned due to being born to parents that are poor or live in poverty; their struggles in life start as early as when they are infants.  Around the world poverty has played such a major role in the upbringing of a child; most children who are born in poverty do not stand a chance of getting an education, and these children are more at risk of abuse, violence and in some cases death. Children born and raised in poverty have many disadvantages including child readiness to learn, as poverty leads to poor health; which decreases motor skills, the child’s ability to concentrate or to retain information and it reduces the attentiveness of the child, which decreases curiosity and motivation.

In Liberia Education is free for all primary school students attending government school; however, most of the schools lack adequate learning facilities, instructors, and learning tools needed for a school to fully function as a learning institution. Some parents with financial means choose to send their children to private schools, which can be expensive for the average Liberian family. The lack of resources has caused many children of disadvantaged backgrounds to leave their education due to poor health, childhood labor, food shortages within the family, leading  to more poverty stricken people, early childhood marriages, etc.; and the cycle continues from generation to generation.

Sensee Foundation of Hope’s goal is to offer children in poverty the opportunity to go to school and stay in school. This cn be accomplished with the help of our sponsors and partners, by renovating the facilities needed for learning, school supplies, well trained instructors and provide a healthy learning environment. As an organization, our main goal is to give each and every impoverished child tools that will empower them so they will have more opportunities to obtain an education and change their future.
